Catfish is the fish that can taste with its whole body. The catfish has the ability to taste its food with all its body parts. As per the findings, catfish has nearly 100,000 taste buds on its body and the count exceed with large catfishes right up to 175,000 taste buds.
Catfish also known as Siluriforme. Catfish have taste receptors all over their body but are present in abundance on the long, whisker-like barbels around their mouths. Most of the Catfish have 1,00,00 taste receptors on their skin, but some of them have 1,75,000 taste receptors. There are close to 3,000 species of catfish. Most of the Catfish species live in freshwater, but there are some species like the hardhead catfish live in saltwater. Catfish eat a variety of small fish, mollusks, insects, crayfish, snails, clams, and frogs. They also will eat algae and the remains of dead fish and plants that are floating in the water. Headwater catfish, the ones that live in saltwater, will eat seagrass, sea cucumbers, shrimp, and blue crabs.
