The practice of writing achievements in prashasti (inscriptions or eulogistic texts) was common under several dynasties in ancient India. However, it is most notably associated with the Gupta dynasty. The Gupta rulers, particularly Chandragupta I and Samudragupta, used prashastis to record their accomplishments and assert their legitimacy.
