The concept of Bodhisattva is associated with Mahayana Buddhism. In this tradition, a Bodhisattva is an enlightened being who, out of compassion, chooses to remain in the cycle of birth and rebirth (samsara) to help others achieve enlightenment and liberation from suffering. The Bodhisattva path emphasizes altruism and the aspiration to achieve Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings.
