Explanation: – The flow net diagram is a graphical representation of flow lines and equipotential lines. – Flow lines are curves that are tangential to the velocity vector at every point. – Equipotential lines are curves that are perpendicular to the flow lines and represent lines of equal hydraulic head. – In a flow net, the distance between two consecutive flow lines is proportional to the velocity magnitude. – In this case, the distance between two consecutive flow lines at the first cross-section is 1 cm, and at the second cross-section is 0.6 cm. – Since the distance between the two cross-sections is 1 m, we can find the scale factor to convert the distances between flow lines to velocities. Calculations: – Scale factor = (Distance between two cross-sections) / (Distance between two consecutive flow lines at the first cross-section) = 1 m / 1 cm = 100 cm / 1 cm = 100 – Velocity at the second cross-section = Scale factor * (Distance between two consecutive flow lines at the second cross-section) = 100 * 0.6 cm = 60 cm/sec
