The “Roof of the World” is a nickname for the Tibetan Plateau. This vast, high-altitude region in Central Asia sits at an average elevation of about 4,500 meters (14,764 feet), making it the highest plateau on Earth. It’s surrounded by some of the tallest mountains, like the Himalayas, and its incredible height gives it this impressive title. The Tibetan Plateau is a remarkable and unique place that plays a big role in shaping the climate and environment of the surrounding areas.
