Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) are issued in multiples of grams of gold, with one gram being the basic unit. The duration is eight years, with an option to redeem after the fifth year on the interest payment date. Interest earned is taxed as per IT Act, 1961, but capital gains tax is exempted upon redemption.
