The quaternary ammonium compounds (QUATS) are bactericidal, mostly against the Gram-positive microorganisms. They are shown to amoebicidal, fungicidal, and virucidal (particularly against enveloped viruses) but not sporicidal and show no cidal effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
