The operating system has to stay in RAM while the computer is on.
It’s stored on the hard drive or SSD permanently, but when you turn the computer on, it gets loaded into RAM because RAM is fast. The CPU can’t work directly from storage efficiently — it needs the OS sitting in memory to manage everything.
