The given statement is false. A spark plug is not used to ignite the fuel in a diesel engine. Unlike gasoline engines, diesel engines do not require a spark plug for ignition. In a diesel engine, the fuel is ignited by the heat generated by the compression of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. This is known as compression ignition. Spark plugs are only used in gasoline engines to ignite the fuel-air mixture.
