What are the long-term consequences of marine pollution and overfishing on ocean ecosystems?
Apart from the issues of species extinction. Over fishing has a huge impact on marine ecosystems. Overfishing leads to the breakdown of food chain. Also we know the concept prey to predators. If we kill all the prey , then it will effect other species. A combination of chemicals and trash blown into the ocean also causes marine pollution. This effects the living organisms in the water.
There are few species like shark and ray are long lived and slow to reproduce. so, it slowly leads to the extinction of living organisms and demages the ocean ecosystem.
The long-term consequences of marine pollution and overfishing on ocean ecosystems include loss of biodiversity, habitat destruction, altered ecosystem dynamics, harm to human health, amplification of climate change, and economic losses.
