Dopamine is primarily involved in the reward pathway implicated in addiction. This neurotransmitter plays a key role in regulating feelings of pleasure and reward, which are central to addictive behaviors. When a person engages in activities that are pleasurable or rewarding, such as using drugs or engaging in certain behaviors like gambling, dopamine is released in the brain, reinforcing the behavior and increasing the likelihood of it being repeated. Over time, this can contribute to the development of addiction.
