->The Chief Minister’s Girl Child Protection Scheme, launched in 1992 by the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, aims to safeguard the welfare of girl children through direct government investment, tackling gender bias and promoting their rights. It emphasizes enrolling girls in education up to the intermediate level, delaying marriage until 18, endorsing family planning with two girl children, and empowering them socially and financially. The scheme involves fixed deposits in the girl child’s name, renewed every 5 years, supporting higher education. Families receive an annual incentive of Rs. 1800 from the 6th year for education expenses, with income and age limits for eligibility.
->The PM CARES for Children Scheme, launched by the Honorable Prime Minister of India on 29th May 2021, aims to assist children who lost parents or guardians due to the COVID-19 pandemic since 11th March 2020. It ensures comprehensive care and protection for these children, promoting their well-being through health insurance, education empowerment, and financial support until they turn 23.
Children Benefits include:
– Financial Support: Rs 10 lakh per child.
– Support for boarding & Lodging: Rehabilitation for all children.
– Assistance for School Education: Guaranteed school admission.
– Assistance for Higher Education: Educational loans available.
– Health Insurance: Rs 5 lakh coverage.
– Scholarship: Rs 20,000 annually for school-going children (Class 1-12).
->Tamil Nadu’s healthcare initiative introduced the Amma Baby Care Kit, provided to all mothers delivering babies in government hospitals. The kit, announced by then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa(late), includes essential items for both mother and baby post-partum, promoting hygiene, sanitation, and infant development. With approximately 6.7 lakh children born in government hospitals annually benefiting from this initiative, an allocated budget of Rs. 67 crore has been earmarked. The scheme aims to enhance the well-being of both mother and child and has received endorsement from experts for its potential to improve infant survival rates. Proper education on using the kit’s contents is recommended to maximize its benefits.
