The first Indian to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award, often regarded as Asia’s Nobel Prize, was Vinoba Bhave. He was honored in 1958 for his advocacy of nonviolence and social reform through the Bhoodan (land gift) movement, which aimed at redistributing land to the landless.
