Answer: The African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the largest living land animal. These magnificent creatures are native to various open habitats in sub-Saharan Africa. Males typically weigh around 6.0 tonnes (13,200 lbs) and stand over 3 meters (10 feet) tall at the shoulder. The largest elephant ever recorded was a male shot in Angola in 1974. It measured an incredible 10.67 meters (35 feet) from trunk to tail and had an estimated weight of 10.4 to 12.25 tonnes!
