The first expressway of India is the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, officially known as the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai Pune Expressway. It was inaugurated in 2002 and connects the cities of Mumbai and Pune in the state of Maharashtra. The expressway has significantly reduced travel time between the two cities and has become a vital transportation corridor in the region.
