Hair loss and hair shedding terms are often implied interchangeably, but they aren’t clinically similar. Understanding the difference is crucial to determine hair fall cause and choosing effective treatment to prevent it. Determining whether hair changes are part of the normal hair growth cycle or signs that you need medical attention.
Hair shedding is part of the natural hair cycle process. Normally, an individual loses 50-100 hair strands regularly. The condition of excessive hair shedding occurs due to stress, illness, childbirth, surgery, rapid weight loss, or certain medications. This type of shedding, known as telogen effluvium, usually starts a few months after the triggering event and often improves once the underlying cause is resolved.
