Static indeterminacy occurs when a structure has more supports or internal constraints than are necessary to maintain equilibrium. This means that there are not enough equations of equilibrium to solve for all the unknown forces and reactions. In static indeterminate structures, additional methods, such as compatibility conditions and material properties, must be used to analyze the system.
