A sinkhole is a depression or hole in the ground caused by the collapse of a surface layer. They typically form in areas with soluble bedrock, such as limestone, when water erodes the rock over time.
Common Causes of Sinkholes:
Erosion: Dissolution of bedrock by acidic rainwater or groundwater.
Heavy Rainfall: Increased water infiltration can destabilize the ground.
Human Activities: Construction, drilling, or groundwater extraction can weaken the ground.
Pipes or Sewage Leaks: Water from broken pipes can erode soil and rock, leading to collapse.
