Education in ancient times was as diverse as the cultures themselves. In Athens, education was quite broad and included philosophy, rhetoric, and physical training. Sparta, on the other hand, was all about military training and discipline. In Rome, education was very practical, focusing on rhetoric and law—skills needed for public life and governance. China had a Confucian approach, emphasizing moral and ethical learning through studying classical texts. In India, Gurukuls offered a holistic education that covered spiritual and practical knowledge. And in Egypt, education was often tied to religion and administration, preparing scribes and officials for their roles.
