    Plague as a bacterial disease:
    Plague is caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis.
    It primarily affects rodents but can be transmitted to humans through the bites of infected fleas.
    There are three main forms of plague in humans: bubonic, septicemic, and pneumonic.
    Symptoms can include fever, chills, weakness, and swollen lymph nodes (in bubonic plague).
    Plague has historically caused several pandemics, including the Black Death in the 14th century.
