Gandhiji decided to fight and start a Satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act of 1919. This Act, also known as the Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act, allowed the British government to arrest and detain individuals without trial and was seen as an oppressive measure against Indian civil liberties. Gandhiji’s campaign against this Act marked the beginning of widespread national agitation and was a significant moment in the Indian independence movement.
