The ex-officio Chairman of the Planning Commission of India was the Prime Minister. The Planning Commission, which was established in 1950, was responsible for formulating India’s Five-Year Plans among other functions. However, it’s worth noting that the Planning Commission was replaced by the NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) in 2015. The Prime Minister of India is also the ex-officio Chairman of the NITI Aayog.
